SouthWest Asian North African (SWANA)
Thanks to Diane Shammas, when 25 donors make a gift, $25,000 will be unlocked!
SouthWest Asian North African (SWANA) is a more inclusive, representative, and progressive term rather than using the term "Middle Eastern North African" (MENA) for the region. At Cal State Fullerton, the SWANA Organization's mission is to create an inclusive atmosphere of unity, friendship, and support where SWANA students can embrace their roots as they integrate into the diverse CSUF environment. SWANA at Cal State Fullerton provides cultural, educational, advocacy, and community-building programs for students who identify as or are allies of the SWANA community.
With their four main pillars being: Social, Academic, InterClub Council Funding, and Advocacy; the SWANA Organization has made history in the CSU system, with the most notable being:
- First CSU SWANA Minor -Spring 2023
- First CSU SWANA Resource Center -Fall 2022/Spring 2023
- CSUF SWANA Organization worked with the CSU Chancellors Office to define the region and officially establish a ethnicity demographic on Cal State Apply -Spring 2021
- First annual CSU SWANA Week which is a week long of events to celebrate the culture and bring light to this community
Support for SWANA would provide additional support to help establish a SWANA Resource Center and provide outreach and programming to encourage strong representation at CSUF.
