Step into the dynamic world of the NSM Story and become a part of shaping the transformative journey of our students! With your generous contribution you’ll be incubating innovative initiatives that are poised to revolutionize the College and propel student success to new heights. 

In 2024, Dean Marie Johnson challenged faculty to submit their "Best Good Idea". The NSM Excellence Fund was able to fund the following initiatives:

• 2-week summer Course Based Undergraduate Research opportunity examining soil samples for antibiotic-producing bacteria in partnership with Tiny Earth.
• A 5-week organic chemistry prep course (CHEM FORGE Ahead) to better prepare students for organic chemistry.
• A community of practice to develop data science infused elementary mathematics curricula (TK-8 grade).
• Mentor 4 NSM students to develop collaboratively AI-based activities to address learning gaps in NSM courses, especially those courses with equity gaps.
• Develop and teach a paid, eight hour, hands-on, in-person training session for interested Math 115A, 115B, 115, and 125 faculty in Summer 2025 to demonstrate and learn flipped classroom teaching skills.
• Engage NSM students in scholarly work during the early stages of their academic careers by introducing a materials-related research problem in several introductory courses, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration, and providing professional development opportunities through specifically designed activities.
